Filtering for MAT?

Quick update;

Spoke to Smoothwall this morning. System looks dated, but the filtering looks solid enough, and the reporting looks great.

 

Saw the Sophos XG demo this afternoon. As expected, it looks like a decent firewall, with filtering bolted on the side. The reporting is as good as our existing solution - Which we're looking to replace because the reporting is ####.

 

On to the next demo.........

iBoss certainly looks interesting. I am a bit concerned about their BYOD protection;

Surely this would only work when paired with some on-site ACL or traffic shaping? Otherwise clients would be free to set any DNS server they like and simply bypass iBoss' filtering.........

 

eSafety4Schools (ES4S) have an iBoss offering. I have used them for a bunch of different solutions over the years and they might be able to help you out. I'm certainly considering iBoss at the moment too.

We will admit our UI is a spot dated. We haven't invested in a lick of paint yet - preferring to focus our efforts on filtering, including getting client filtering off the mark, in order to hedge against the increasing difficulties in inline filtering.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I was told last week that your devs are working on a reskin. Both statements could only be true if you don't pay your devs.......

Whoever told you that is perhaps confused that there'll be a new brand out soon, and the website will get an overhaul, and the product will look a little different (but it won't be a reskin, just a couple of very cosmetic changes). If you could PM me with who you spoke to I'll make sure they're singing from the collective hymn sheet.

Thanks for letting me know. That pretty much rules out Smoothwall. Not that the cosmetics really bother me, but the inconsistency at this point is worrying, as well as your lack of clarity on your future plans.......
