"Legacy" modules in sims eg Exams Organiser, Options, Nova

Long story short, we have been changing S:\ permissions and removing the s:\ entirely for staff that don't need it.

We use Solus4 to deploy so "most" of the stuff goes through the database, so no S: needed.

However, i've started to make security groups for the relevant areas and some of the older software is being a little more problematic.

Are legacy apps, like Exams Organiser, Options, or Nova still the prefered modules used by schools, do capital even support them.... or should we be using a more modern alternative?

Some of these look NT 95 era!

Just for transparency, we've normally had a dedicated SIMS manager here that looked after sims and the servers that solely ran it. I have little to no experience with SIMS\CAPITA. I don't really know what i'm talking about lol

Exams Organiser, Options and Nova-T6 are all still current (as far as Capita is concerned....) and the relevant people should have access to them.

Exams Organiser is Windows 3.11 era!

Generally teachers don't need a S drive, just the back office staff, then they need full control over Exams, CTF, Nova, Attend, B2B, Census \ Workforce Census then any Finance folders. Important its Full control, not just modify - stupid I know but the older software has problems. Attendances letter I remember being one really weird one.

options online is a possibility for you?

I've already method this to the SLT team here. Not sure what the financial situation is but i'm pushing for the cloud hosted stuff moving forward.

The missing password error for options is usually because it can't see S:\SIMS and that's usually because its not set correctly in the sims.ini file.

If its working on some workstations but not others check if there is a sims.ini in the relevant users AppData folder and it there is delete it.

It's actually pretty slick and works well enough that we got 240 kids through it.

I'm not one for praising Crapita's work but sometimes they get it mostly right.

The world's probably gonna end now.....

I Just need to get the current module working now really. we can transition to online later in the year.

Does anybody know what NTFS permissions the user of the options module needs on the S: ?

I only started getting the error (post 4) in options once S: drive permission were amended to satisfy GDPR requirements.

I've obviously missed something for Options.

cheers

Tried this, but still get the error. For giggles, I give the test account full access to the share riot and it works. So deffo a permission issue. Edited by Jaan
