Warwick_Tech Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Hi All, So we have a selection of laptops that need to leave site and students can use - As we don't have any cloud solutions (other than office 365) I thought windows 10 S would be a great way to lock the machines down - However speaking to MS even though we have a VLSC agreement we don't get Windows 10 S keys (?) and each time we try to input one of ours it upgrades to Pro Has anyone got any knowledge of this? I know Windows 10 S will continue to work without a licence key, but I'd prefer to know they are licenced. Cheers,

Not tried it myself Beginning with Windows 10, version 1803, you can enable S mode on supported editions. This is a change from previous versions of Windows where Windows 10 S was its own edition with its own base media. To enable S mode, you'll create an unattend file, and then use DISM to apply the unattend file to a mounted Windows image. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/windows-10-s-enable-s-mode Bear this in mind if you want to switch between the 2 modes... While it’s free to switch to Windows 10 Pro, it’s not reversible. The only way to rollback this kind of switch is through a bare metal recovery (BMR) reset. This restores a Windows device to the factory state, even if the user needs to replace the hard drive or completely wipe the drive clean.
