DalekSec Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Hi All, Does anyone here have a recording studio (at work not at home!) that the general public use? We've recently built one and the public are soon able to rent it out. We have a Mac on High Sierra managed via Mosyle. How do you have the public user setup? I'm currently leaning towards a Local user on the Mac but that still has draw backs like we have to create a user in our firewall for the proxy. Were as a network user will need to be very locked down so can't access student file shares and the like! Interested to hear how other peoples have theirs setup. Thanks Dalek
bald_pig Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 The college I attended would rent out their studio, this included the studio technician, who would manage all the tech himself

But the lock down side i see as IT job not a music tech, i will ask him next week what they will need access to etc. of course.

Nobody would use the computer but the tech, so he'd log on with his account, and just transfer the finished product to a usb drive, or upload to cloud storage at the end.

Yeah we don't want it setup like that, if the music tech for whatever is out the room he'll leave them with access to staff shares unsupervised. Much prefer a designated user

SamanthaD Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 If it's for recording then I would want a standalone machine off network as much as possible. Maybe connect via wifi for AV updates once a week (done by the music tech) but otherwise keep it completely isolated, and give a standard build machine for admin etc.

The students use it for recording and need to access their files etc from network also.
