[1809, ou] The logout solution

I'd been forced to roll out Windows 10 before I was ready. (scratch issues) I've agreed to roll it out to just one room as a live test, this has actually gone very well with no issues. Just 1809 edu and office 2019 install.. it only occurred to me today (3 days after deployment) that I'd not shown anyone how to logout of Windows 10. I think anyone would agree who not used it that it is NOT intuitive. I spied on some pupils today to see how they were coping, it seems they've taken to pressing ctrl+alt+del and choose sign out!

 

Some pupils resort to shutting the PC down in order to logout. I didn't see anyone click on the tiny faint outline of a blank avatar.

 

I love that M$ have made the logout so un-intuitive that users resorted to the secure desktop to sign out

Put a logout button on the start menu tiles and all is well again.

Same as above, we have added a logout and shutdown tile on the start menu.

I added a shortcut to this VBScript in a shared area as a tile on the Start Menu with a custom icon. Just need to make sure the shortcut exists in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs as well as your redirected Start Menu, else it won't pin.

Same as above, start menu shortcut pinned as a tile by using a custom start menu layout xml.

If you're in the early stages you might also want to consider rolling office365 proplus client out instead of 2019. Updates as regularly as you choose and MS have said 2019 is the last of the 20xx releases.

Can always teach them to Right Click on the Start Menu button and press the Sign Out button under 'Shut down or sign out'.
