Morning everybody. Took over a new high school recently, absolutely zero documentation. Dug out a trolley full of iPad 3s that hadn't been used for years, plus a few 2012 MacBook Pros. Decided to set up Apple Configurator and get the iPads in use, so I attempted to enrol the school in Apple School Manager. Received an email from Apple saying "....School is already enrolled in Apple School Manager. Contact your institution’s Administrator for more information". Trouble is I am the administrator, and I have literally no idea whose email address was used for the signup process. Asked Apple for assistance but all they did was tell me to call a US-based helpline.

Anyone else found themselves in this situation?

Have you called the US based helpline?

When i've called apple in past they've been very helpful and got my issues sorted, i know it can be a PITA to call them but atleast it solves your issue instead of looking around t'internet for a couple hours atleast!

I haven’t called them yet, I accept that’s the best way forward but I’m just wondering if there’s someone else who’s been through the same process.

Had the same recently. Zero documentation on things from an IT perspective. However we do have RM support for the key parts, but there's a hell of a lot of internal (tribal knowledge) sort of stuff that I'm having to unpick. If you want to share ideas etc let me know. Would be good to bounce ideas of someone else for things.

Good luck with the Apple issue and let us know how you get on. :)

We have had something similar. APP created some years ago and left dormant, and we lost the password - had two factor authentication set up for a device we no longer had, so couldn't get anywhere.

I decided to cut our losses and start again, but when we tried to re-register they said we were already registered.

We did know the original e-mail we had used though, so we re-activated it (it was on our old domain) and Apple then contacted that e-mail address after we contacted them in order that the original administrator could give permission to deal with the issue.

They knew that the original administrator, the new administrator, and the "authorised person" were all the same person (me) but they had a process to follow.

Eventually, they deleted our old account completely and this allowed us to re-register from scratch, and its all working fine now.

We did get it resolved in the end, but it took several e-mails from us and phone calls from them and like many of these things it often depends who you get on the other end of the phone.

We did find it was better dealing with them by e-mail as we had to explain the issues several times and it was easier to track things by having the e-mail chain.

I think if you don't know the original e-mail address it might be more of a problem as they don't seem to want to do anything if they can't contact the original administrator.

Sort of surprised they don't have a process for dealing with stuff like this - I suspect its a fairly common scenario, but then again, it is Apple.

You wouldn't believe the amount of non-standard and non-documents stuff I've found. I work for an MSP so at least I have people I can call and an onsite techie who goes way above and beyond to get stuff working.

The best yet (give it time) was trying to find a missing, undocumented server needed for some exams - it was offline and unplugged, so no amount of network scans helped me there!
