robk Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I have several hosts running Vmware ESXi 5.5 (the free version, not with Vcenter etc). Which I need to update to the latest version to keep the OS compatibility etc. Whats the best way of doing this? Can I jump straight from 5.5 to say 6.5 or do I need to do the intermediate releases as well? I need to deploy the odd Windows 2019 server (RD gateway) so want to get this done asap, but only have a couple of days where I can have some down time... Any advice?

You have a choice as to which method you choose - boot from USB, CD etc. https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.vsphere.upgrade.doc/GUID-FE668788-1F32-4CB2-845C-5547DD59EB48.html check that your server is supported still - probably won’t be an issue even if it isn’t.
Domino Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 If it's a standalone host, as precaution I'd take a full config dump from RVTools first. If something does go wrong and you need to rebuild, you'll be glad to have it. 1
