round2it Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I have been tasked with allowing remote access to sims. What are my options. is sims learning gateway a thing still?
Reboot_IT Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Is this for staff to access remotely or to provide parents information?
Reboot_IT Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 We use RDS with SIMS installed. I've used SLG (locally hosted) to provide parental info before and found it to be a nightmare. The hosted version may be better.
Kitkatninja Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 We use RDS over HTTPS on Server 2016 - it is more secure that previous versions. Just remember to close all un-necessary ports and get a SSL cert and purchase the required licenses. 1
JATSO Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 We use sims hosted for those staff that only need it.
Linfit Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 RDS is probably the cheapest and quickest option if you have Volume Licensing. We have SIMS as a remoteapp, but selected staff can also remote desktop through to their office PC. This is good if they are also using things like FMS, 4Matrix etc. Fairly straightforward to set up, there are lots of guides on the web, and numerous threads on here about it. Its been a real game-changer at our school, and some staff, particularly SMT, Exams Officer etc, use it extensively.
