oliphanj Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 Has anyone found a way to simplify logging into Windows computers for young elementary students? I was thinking a picture password, or pin, etc.. I know with Windows 10 they have Windows Hello but that still has to be per computer. Thanks, Jason
PotNoodleTech Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 What about fingerprint readers? Only way I can think of of providing an "easy" log on. My 2p is, teach them to use logins and passwords, it is a life skill they are going to need to be adapt at for the rest of their lives.
FN-GM Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 These work on Chromebooks but I am not sure on Windows - never tried. Might be worth looking at. https://clever.com/products/badges
Koldov Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 From what I've just Googled, Windows 10 has those options (PIN, picture, etc) all built in, I think the problem is that a 'proper' password has to be set on the account first? Without any other info on your set-up it's hard to know how you are looking to achieve your goal and what scale of estate you are talking It may be an easy thing for you to do manually, or you may need to look into scripting something. Also, does the GPO for not needing complex passwords still apply to Windows 10?
dhicks Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 These work on Chromebooks but I am not sure on Windows The website seems to imply it does - could be very handy. Just thinking: you could have a Windows (or Mac?) machine boot up by default and auto-logon to an account that runs a Chrome kiosk, pointing at a web page that handles logins in whatever way you like. On succesful authentication, the web server would send a message back to a service running on the workstation which would set a one-off auto-login for the account in question and reboot the machine, logging it in.

Windows Hello (including biometric) sign on works on a domain now, but the private key is only stored on the machine. Difficult in a shared environment...
oliphanj Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 The Clever badges product looks very interesting. Does anyone know what this costs? Thanks for the feedback. Jason
dhicks Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 The Clever badges product looks very interesting. Does anyone know what this costs? If I read the website correctly, that functionality would seem to be free. I've looked at Clever in the past, but it's still US-centric at the moment and didn't integrate directly with our MIS, so we didn't wind up using it. If you're US-based, though, it might be perfect for you.
chazzy2501 Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 was windows multipoint server made for this?
oliphanj Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 I would say it was made for this purpose Windows Multipoint Server presents a login just like a Windows client(In a domain environment). We have been using WMS since 2010, since its development has stopped we are phasing it out. Jason
