Is it possible to share a google folder and have it display in My Drive

I need to share a folder with a group of teachers that are just getting to know G Suite. I want to make things as simple as possible and share some files from my Drive folder to them.

 

Does a shared folder still end up in the users 'Shared with me' folder only and in order for them to edit the files in the folder they would need to drag it to their Drive folder?

 

Is there any way to get the file to automatically show in the My Drive folder?

They can still edit the documents within the folder when it's in 'Shared with me', but they won't be able to see it in their drive or move the folder within another folder until they move it into their 'My Drive'. You can do this by clicking the link from the email, clicking the name of the folder at the top and selecting 'Add to My Drive'.

 

I think if you make someone the Owner of something, it automatically appears in their 'My Drive', but you can only do this for one person (and you probably don't want to).

But now you have highlighted that fact, I now feel bad that I should have known this basic usage, especially as I have used Drive for many many years.

Yes, you can use GAM to move items from the Shared With Me Folder to a user's My Drive folder - means you can have one "storage" user sync a Windows /home folder with Google Drive and share each user's home area to their My Drive.
