Hi all,

I went to a Google event and their method of having a staff shared folder in Drive was to create a user called ‘Staff Share’ and share that Drive with all staff to use for resources etc.

We use Office 365 and wondered if anyone has done something similar?

It would also be great to be able to map this shared folder to user via GPO or similar. I’ve seen an open source tool online to map OneDrive via GPO but haven’t tested it yet. I am also aware of IAMCloud solution to this but would cost £1500 a year.

Thanks!

That sounds like a silly way to go about it?!

Anyway if you have O365 you should create a SharePoint site, and then you can auto map to it using GPO

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/use-group-policy

Think it's the section about mapping team sites.

Granted I haven't done much with SharePoint myself but pretty sure it will be the way to go in the future.

There is a SharePoint migration tool from Microsoft which will handle all the moving of your current file shares to SharePoint and sort out permissions etc.

Hopefully someone with more experience with SharePoint will be able to offer more advice

Google have team drives now so no need to create a user called "staff share" and share with staff. I hope it wasn't Google advocating that way? Thats not the right way to do it.
