Cloud Backup what do you backup & Syncing large amounts to Google Drive

When you guys use cloud backup do you backup your whole site? E.g. we have a NAS drive with shared folders on that is close to 3TB plus our servers probably totalling 5TB all together. My Shared drives NAS is causing me a real problem with the size it is and finding a reliable affordable way to back it up.

 

Also, anyone know of a reliable way to sync something like 3TB to Google Drive as an option to start using that for our shared folders?

We sync between Google Drive and a local Windows shared folder (a media folder, currently with around 3TB of assorted files / videos on) on Windows Server 2016 with Insync:

I should perhaps emphasise that that syncs files, that isn't a backup - if someone starts deleting files either locally or on Google Drive then the other corresponding files will be deleted. You do get a 30 day restore window for files on Google Drive, which is only so useful as people tend to not realise such files have been deleted right away. We backup files (around 7TB, complete with grandfather / father / son versioning) to Amazon Web Services, which is costing us just under £100 a month at the moment.

 

If you want something that you can run from a script to do periodic dumps of files to Google Drive, then try RClone:

It's basically rsync but for cloud storage (Google Drive, O365, and a whole bunch of others), and free.

Cloudberry can backup from onsite to cloud storage such as Google Drive. Not used them in a few years now as we are basically cloud based now.

Each school I look after is at a different stage but some are still using MS Office and using Google File Stream as a mapped drive instead of local server

If you are talking about backing up from onsite server to Google Drive I seem to remember Cloudberry is clever enough to keep all the permissions.

Insync used to very good but recently i've found it crazy slow to sync data to Google Drive now. I've got a call open with their support and they know it's an issue but have not resolved it yet.
