Hard drive Done

Wondering if there is any hope for this hard drive? Of course, the client has nothing backed up from it

Trolling? It's been opened, so of course there's no hope. Dust in the air will stop it from working.

Not trolling at all, just trying to determine if there is any hope with the hard drive accessing the data on it. Not the first time I have opened a disk up and still be able to recover the data, just never seen one acting this way. Most times the head was just stuck..

There's always hope, but personally I would recommend it going to a specialist recovery company to try to get the data off it

Had to check - it's a bit like saying "is my car broken?" when you've run it with no sump on.

 

Again though - because the heads run on a cushion of air, a dust particle is easily large enough to disrupt this. Some drives are also helium filled and are even more dead when opened. At this stage, a specialist is needed - they'll transplant the platters into another drive with the same controller and ideally firmware. Not cheap!

There is significantly less chance of it being fixed/recovered now that it has been opened. You can try contacting a specialist data recovery company but expect to pay £100's for the privilege - some may not even let you send it to them now it's been opened.

Well..I definitely wouldn't have opened it first....but I've always had success by putting a drive in the freezer overnight....but I'm guessing that would be a really bad idea with an open drive that already has air with moisture in it.

I fully understand the risks of it being opened. From all indications, it sounded like it was a stuck head and hoped that it was the issue. Unfortunately it was not the case. I was aware of the risks, and fully was expecting that it was probably going to be sent away to the specialists.
