Ertech Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Is it a good idea to Encrypt HyperV host 2012r2? Any issues/problems using Bitlocker on RIADs?
DJ-1701 Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 If you are worried about physical theft it would be a good idea to. Thought most places have an alarmed building, with a physically locked door containing their servers, I know not all schools have that luxury. Question is... do you have a TPM chip in the physical hardware.
synaesthesia Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 If it's a file server I'd try hard to stay away from encrypting it, for larger schools it may well be enough to notice the drop in performance. MIS server thought is doable, but as above it would probably be more prudent to look at physical security if that's an option.
Blue_Cookeh Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 You shouldn't see a noticeable performance drop with BitLocker. Make sure your servers have a TPM (virtual TPM if VMs) and the disks support hardware encryption. We don't encrypt Hyper-V hosts but we do encrypt at the VM level.
