There's got to be a better word for it... I don't like to think I'm a hoarder really.

Sometimes I see the TV programmes about hoarders and I think 'what are they keeping that for?' Honestly, houses piled up with absolute sh*te (sometimes literally)...

That's not me... Is it?

I need a snappy acronym, like FOMO.

Fear I Will Need It One Day - FIWNIOD?

No, you're quite right. That fear sometimes pays off. I bought a new diesel particulate filter last year, a cheap and cheerful £150 jobbie from Ebay as opposed to an £800 original from Ford.

I kept the original just in case, and I'm glad I did. New one blocked because it's rubbish. Bought some fluid to clean out the old original, refitted it and it's good as new. If I hadn't have hoarded it, I'd be paying out £800 or hunting for a new car.

And now more than ever, tech is worth hoarding. Classic 8 bit computers go for anything from £100 up to £500. Even more modern stuff like N64's are going for a small fortune, and as a result I won't be binning the kid's Xbox One when it's officially an old fart. It'll be well packed and we can dig it out when I'm 90 to laugh at how rubbish the graphics in GTA V were.

If it works - then I may keep it, if its broken, I will tinker with it, if it looks good, I may keep it, if it's a beige box, it usually ends up with a few hours of me with some tools, a lot of cursing and usually some reasonably powerful kit inside. did you know, you can (just about - ish), watercool one of the early RM Ones (the ones that came with the Athlon XP processors) and run half decent (allthough, a bit toasty) graphics in it, with an intel K range processor

Woot! @synaesthesia

Well... would you look at that!

Picture was horrible at first through the aerial, but bizarrely enough I had a 5 pin din/Ps-2 mouse adapter lying around (see, never throw anything away), I managed to kludge that to a video/audio RCA pair of wires for composite (but no picture for some reason) and then I plugged that into a RCA/scart adapter (all bits I had laying around) and voila!

So then a bit of this...

A bit of this...

Quite a bit more of this...

I'd start a new thread but I think it belongs here.

I may have just, erm, "soiled myself in a happy manner". I can't imagine the worth, the insurance, the electricity bill in all involved.
