On the day that Uber drivers go on strike, they sent out an update to their general terms (their capitalisation):

 

YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT UBER DOES NOT PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION OR LOGISTICS SERVICES OR FUNCTION AS A TRANSPORTATION CARRIER AND THAT ALL SUCH TRANSPORTATION OR LOGISTICS SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY CONTRACTORS WHO ARE NOT EMPLOYED BY UBER OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES.

 

So we can no longer take an Uber - we just have a licence to use an app that by some remote stroke of luck happens to put us in touch with someone driving a car with a big Uber sticker on the side.
