NIC Teaming

Hi All

 

Hoping you can help, I have a File Server I'm configuring that I'm trying to NIC Team two Broadcom NetXtreme.

 

I've used the Broadcom Nic Teaming Wizard that comes with their software, version 4. Added both physical ports, enabled Smart Load Balancing, No standby Mode, No Live Link and skipped manage VLAN.

 

I then set two ports on our Cisco 2690X Switches to the same VLAN and plugged them in although there is an uplink the computer won't connect to the network and acts as if nothing is plugged in?

 

Do you guys have any ideas what could be wrong? I'm sure it's me somewhere being a tool!!

if its anything like the nic teaming in server 20012 you dont need/want to do anything to the switches its all handled at the "client" end

The switchports will need to be the same config. You can't have them on 2 separate VLANS. As well as this if you use the LACP options in the team you will need to configure an etherchannel on the switch.

Cheers mate, I've tried this. I bonded both ports but still no avail and both ports are configured the same.

 

switchport access vlan 207
switchport mode access
channel-group 4 mode desirable

 

I also just configured both ports without the channel bond but still the same result?

As you haven't setup LACP take out the channel-group.

 

Portfast hasn't been setup so you won't get network connectivity right away anyway so could it be that?

 

I would use the Windows software instead of broadcom.

I left it for over half an hour but still no connectivity. There is an uplink light on both ends but the actual server won't connect to anything? What's the Windows software? I though Windows Server 2008 R2 couldn't do NIC teaming natively, that's why I used the software?

Oh right. I assumed it was a more modern OS. In that case you can't use the Windows software.

Still can't get this to work. But I've also found it doesn't create a new NIC adapter under Network & Sharing Centre?

I would re-install the Broadcom Teaming software as sounds as though something wrong there if it is not creating "Team1" (or whatever name) in the Network and Sharing Centre. Also test on an unmanaged switch, if you have one laying around with another PC to confirm whether it is the File Server or the Switch.

Also make sure latest Broadcom Drivers from them and not the in built ones from MS
