Gongalong Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Hi folks, Is there a list anywhere of what types of users e.g. teachers, school nurse, receptionist, should have in terms of the SIMS roles e.g. Administration Assistant? Thanks
ThomL Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 (edited) something like this? simspermissionslatest.xls or at least this gives you a breakdown of permissions received for each role a user is assigned. Edited September 25, 2018 by ThomL 2
Boredguy Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 There isn't a list per say, but as ThomL posted, there is the spreadsheet that gives you a breakdown for the SIMS roles. We created our own role for our admin assistants based on what it was within SIMS that they needed to access 1
Gongalong Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 The spreadsheet I already have. As per Boredguy I was more after a list of what staff roles should have one or more SIMS roles, just so we can double check what's listed here.

As per Boredguy I was more after a list of what staff roles should have one or more SIMS roles, just so we can double check what's listed here. Isn't that more of a school policy type affair? Risk assessments and all that sort of jazz? I mean ideally from my point of view each user type/group would be assessed in regards to their job roles and level of access needed in SIM. What do all teachers/admin/TA etc. need and then either locate appropriate permissions from the spreadsheet with a predefined role/series of roles or build a custom role for each group that provides the level of access needed as determined from the previous investigation/review. Having SLT back this or even conduct this review with your input would make this easiest imho. We recently carried out a review of SIMS perms and found some very rogue users that had access to all manner of things, they were locked down, complaints were made, justification + line manager ticket to help desk to get any irregular permissions restored. It tidied things up a fair degree but in the short term was a royal PITA. Edited September 25, 2018 by ThomL 1
Gongalong Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 The difficulty is that the permissions are hugely detailed, so looking at least for a recommendation as to who should have what.
Cache Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 We give the vast majority of ours Class Teacher permissions - the main reason being that for whatever reason Admin Assistant permissions can't see Assessment Manager or Profiles documents in Linked documents and I've never been able to find the permission needed to be able to view them. It is rather rediculous as if we need an extra report printing off for someone, who's likely to do it....
Gongalong Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 If the Capita permissions spreadsheet is to be believed it says Assessment Manager Tools > System Utilities > Individual Reports > Use Print requires "Assessment Coordinator", although that sounds like a rather lofty permission. All our teachers seems to have Assessment Operator, along with Class Teacher, Administration Assistant (I think this needs to be removed), and Parent (also needs to be removed!).
Boredguy Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 well they should only have Parent, if they are a parent of a child (and your running SLG)
Gongalong Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 We were running SLG but no longer, but I suspect our permissions are a mess hence the OP. Our SIMS Admin struggles with this side of things, so trying to help them out.
