mikemcsharry Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 I admit it, schoolboy error. But is there a smart way to fix this? Personal PC belonging to school staff, disk had major errors. I was able to take disk out, put into caddy where I virus checked it and copied most user data files and manufacturer supplied drivers to a dedicated USB stick. Ha - look, says I, there is a Windows 7 label underneath. Grand, I have an OEM Win 7 DVD. Loaded lovely clean set up of Windows 7, all drivers in and happy and completely updated. Lets get it activated. Bl**dy label is Windows 7 Home Premium, I installed Windows 7 Pro. Is there a way out of this? I seem to remember a registry key that told Windows what version it was. I actually don't wnat / need pro facilities on this device I'm not sure I can get my hands on a Win7 Home DVD Ta for any help

mikemcsharry Posted September 21, 2018 Author Posted September 21, 2018 Thanks for your help folks - that worked a treat. The difficult bit for me was finding a DVD drive to burn the image Also, a while since I had to activate licences, the new mobile phone method is much easier
