mavhc Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Well, you've got to pick the number of frames to buffer so you can compress better, can't compare to future frames before they exist. I guess the trick is not to do this multiple times, in the camera, again to transmit to the internet servers, and again to send over the internet. The second trick would be to make sure you're always sending data to the client at the speed they want, this would a) reduce the need to average out compression to get a more constant bitrate as the video complexity changes over time, and b) reduce the need for buffering 3rd would be to get the player to speed up playback slightly when it's behind to return to closer to now, instead of getting further and further behind whenever it pauses due to no buffer https://www.design-reuse.com/articles/33005/understanding-latency-in-video-compression-systems.html
