Web Hosting for students

Looking at providing web space for students internally so they can upload websites and create e-portfolios etc.

 

Does anyone currently do this or done it, if so how did you go about it. I am looking to have GP create a mapped drive to their designated user webspace so they can just dump files and then navigate to the website.

Was looking to sort something local/in house so as to avoid any GDPR/Safeguarding issues.

Installing a PHP/MySQL server on Windows 2012 R2 took me about an afternoon at most, and is conveniently written up on my blog here Part One covers the web server, PHP and mapping the drives for students, Part Two covers the MySQL side of things (so you can ignore it if you don't need web applications)

 

I'm guessing the instructions will be pretty much the same for Win 2016 tbh

Personally. Id go down the centos panel route.

Free to use and can run on a VM with a couple of GB's ram etc. I run a high traffic server on it and never had problems. Plus it has a nice web panel for students.
