cant ping pc with .domainname.local on the end?

Hi,

I cannot seem to find out whats wrong here....

 

I cannot ping one of our computers when i add domainname.local on the end?

It pings fine with just computername and fine with IP address?

 

Its only a problem as there is a photocopier added to the machine, when users add the printer it always tried to add it as: printername.domain.local

Sounds like it's resolving via WINS but not DNS - is there an A record for the client on your DNS server? Check the DHCP client service is running on the machine as it needs this to register its A record IIRC... what does nslookup show you?

It does not look to be properly registered in DNS. Is the not computer domain joined or have a localy configured ip as the PC may not no that it is on that DNS suffix.

 

Might be an idea to have a look at the ipconfig on the offending computer to see if it has a connection specific dns-suffix listed.
