Sccm multiple site

Has anyone tried to install a sccm site in a primary school and used the secondary school as the master and tried to control things like windows updates / os upgrades etc - would interested to have a convo and see what obstacles came across your way

We have it spread across 5 physical sites. We have 1 site server and then a Distribution Point at each site. That way imaging and other things like Windows updates are performed locally.

I’m just about to do this.

 

As I understand it I just go into the SCCM console and add a Distribution Point. SCCM then takes care of it all.

 

Then I just copy anything I want to the new distribution point and away I go?

I have never tried it. I have known people to run WDS on a DC so I can't see it being an issue.

It is supported but not recommended and I’d have to agree, it’s probably not a great thing to do.

 

Personally I like to keep as much as possible off a DC and onto other machines. SCCM can be quite resource hungry especially the database so you’ll have to make sure you have a decent spec machine and take steps to stop sql server effecting performance. It might be presumptuous by IME a school with only one server has probably already got it running all manner of things and sticking something like SCCM in as well could really cause a problem.

 

Another thing to consider is that it will require IIS and do you really want to open up that attack vector on a DC?

My advise is not to put it on the DC the band width of the SQL and the network pressure when imaging will mean your DC will run like an old dog Richard
