Hi,

I'm in the process of upgrading UltraVNC from 1.1.93 (MSI) to 1.2.2.1 (exe) and am struggling to uninstall 1.1.93 with Msiexec via WPKG on Windows 10 machines.

I'm switching over to the exe as it allows me to install only the VNC Server and ignore the viewer, I couldn't figure out a way to do this with the MSI. I have also attempted to perform an upgrade using the 1.2.2.1 MSI file, however this just installs side by side.

The command I am using is

MsiExec.exe /X{4ABD1242-7176-49CC-A128-AB9506C72DC7} /qn

. This fails with error code 1605 when executed through WPKG, but uninstalls the applicaton correctly when executed from an administrative cmd prompt.

1605: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.

Clearly the application is installed, and the command is correct. This application was installed by SYSTEM as this is the user context which WPKG runs under, this is the same user which I am attempting to uninstall with.

Have anyone experienced this issue or have any advice?

Thanks.

Ahhh you can all ignore this. Turns out that it was being installed by a different user during testing. After installing the old MSI with WPKG and then performing the uninstall, everything worked as expected.

The application wasn't installing on a per user basis, but the user context had something to do with it.. News to me.
