Noctua NH-U12s, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo or Cooler Master Hyper 212x

Hi all,

 

I need a new CPU cooler for my PC. I have a:

I7-4770K

MSI Z870GD65 Gaming Motherboard - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/z87-gd65-gaming.html

Cooler Master HAF XB Case - HAF XB | Cooler Master

 

I am torn between the Noctua U12s, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo and Cooler Master Hyper 212x. I am leaning towards the Noctua, but alot of people are saying it is not worth the extra money compared to the CM 212s.

 

Just wanted anyone else's opinion.

No I'm not mate, just keeping it as is. Don't feel the need to, I don't game that much anymore, the kids use it more for the occasional game and mainly movie streaming.

If you aren't planning on over clocking, then it's fine with the lower end coolers - even the stock cooler that Intel put in will work for it.

 

However,

Noctua don't produce the most attractive coolers in the world, which is a shame IMO, because they are brilliant. If you have a side window, avoid, as it just looks nasty. Also does your machine need it? It is a bit like putting racing tyres onto your stock 1 litre fiesta.

Cooler Master - Can make some good ones, can also produce a load of rubbish. Pretty no frills, but looks reasonable

One to consider: BeQuiet - Used a few of their products, and cannot really fault them. Their Silent wing fans are very good.

 

But if you aren't over clocking, any cooler with a rating for that TDP will be fine. But I also recommend getting some decent thermal paste, as the free stuff you get with your cooler is really not good.

Noctua are going to release black (Chromax) versions of their CPU coolers soon. Much nicer!

I have Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Paste for the cooler. Thinking Cooler Master might be an alternative, I know the Hyper 212 Evo has been around for a while.

Of your options, I'd go for the 212 Evo.

I have a NOCTUA NH-D15 DUAL RADIATOR sat on my i7 8700K. It's a BIG heat sink and it does obscure your access and view of all other components. Its certainly not pretty but it is cool.

212 Evo is the best bang for your buck CPU cooler, the go to for all low end - medium end builds.

 

Might aswell overclock it, the 212 evo will keep the temps down enough and you paid extra for that 'k'
