jgmitchell Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Hi We're looking at moving on from Profile manager as it looks like Apple are going to drop it at any moment. I've investigated jamf and tried to get a trial of the mdm along with an education quote. I've received the quote, but they include a £5.6k 3 day setup fee for someone to visit the site and help us get set up. I've queried this cost and whether or not it can be passed on, which it can't. Yet when I look through the tasks that will be carried out, its stuff we've already done for our current set up, I.e opening ports, making device groups, setting up VPP etc... I have configured multiple mdm's before, as have my colleagues, yet we are not "Jamf trained" and so cannot get past this. Has anyone managed to get around this cost and if not can recommend an MDM that manages iOS and Mac devices appropriate for an education environment? Cheers
Norphy Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Have you considered Intune? You should be able to get that for considerably less.
Stevecee Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Hi We moved from Jamf to Zuludesk not seeing any issues here, although Jamf does have more if you are managing Macs! Steve
Arthur Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I've received the quote, but they include a £5.6k 3 day setup fee for someone to visit the site and help us get set up. Was that for Jamf Pro or Jamf Cloud?
jgmitchell Posted June 29, 2018 Author Posted June 29, 2018 I requested Jamf pro, They have quoted me for jamf pro cloud
Stevecee Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 We had to pay one day for setting ut for iPads, then when we went to be an Apple school they wanted another day even though we already had some Macs on the system Steve
Brimstone Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Was that for Jamf Pro or Jamf Cloud? Jamf Pro and Jamf Cloud are the same thing, essentially if you are just managing iPads that is Jamf Pro for iOS, if you want Macs as well that is Jamf Pro for macOS. Jamf used to have a 2 tier licencing program where you could host the JSS on site, now it's all cloud based.
Brimstone Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Have you considered Intune? You should be able to get that for considerably less. If you have Macs as well Intune really does nothing for managing macOS.

Cheers These guys do a complete remote managed service for macOS and iOS. https://www.krcs.co.uk/managed-service
free780 Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Well SCCM/Intune can do a lot with Mac's if you do a lot of work. Be aware you have to find all the settings you want and they will be per machine no per user AFAIK.
Stevecee Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Don't get me wrong Zuludesk is well able to manage Macs as well as iPads, just that you do get a fuller feature list with Jamf, and possibly the timeline's quicker. However we have not had an issue and we have been using all year on 600 devices. Approx £5 per device and no setup costs, if you have been using profile manager you should be ready to go pretty much. Steve

Jamf can do macOS management on a per user basis, plus it has all the pkg creation tools to properly distribute applications not in the Mac App Store.
free780 Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 I've been using PM,ARD. But found both not as good as GPO,SCCM on the Windows side. I've gone to a bash script to do the initial setup. I tested SCCM but the detection rules were to sensitive for applications and the user needs to trigger the install. When only 1% of your environmental is Mac's it's hard to justify the time and budget for them.
Stevecee Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Does zuludesk do any AD integration ? No not AD but will sync to Apple School Manager to pull down managed apple IDs, DEP and VPP etc. Steve
