Any users of Kyocera or Konica Minolta photocopiers?

Just a quick one this. We are just finishing a tender process for a new photocopier supplier and have it down to the two named manufacturers above. There's very little in it cost wise so I need to know how good they are in service.

 

If anybody uses these brands in school, could you tell me how good a quality they are? Do they break down much? Are their engineers quick on call-out etc?

We've got quite a few KM MFP's can't rate them highly enough... We go through a reseller rather than direct with KM, but they've been reliable for us in the years we've been using them - certainly more so than some of the other brands we've used...

Only mentioning as you're an ANME member - but KM "should" be at our next NW meeting in November - though I would imagine you'll have made your decision by then...

Kyocera right the way through here, with models 5551 ci and 4551 ci. They've been excellent thus far and I can't rate them highly enough.

We have both....and not had any problems.....in fact I like both..

We have Konica Minolta units.

 

The only thing that annoys me is that they don't support Papercuts "Prevent job release in error" if you're using follow me printing - i.e If the printer is out of paper, ink (or in any failed state) users can still log on and release jobs. They then get annoyed when nothing comes out & go and reprint elsewhere. When the error is fixed, the printer then spews out all the queued jobs which causes an absolutely poo ton of waste. Kyocera does support this.

 

Because of this I'm considering making support of this a requirement when we go out to tender again, which right now will exclude KM units

We support schools who use both. In fact one school just moved from Konica to Kyocera.

 

Support from both is good (although a word to the wise: as soon as you get them installed e-mail them and tell them you can't ring premium rate numbers and ask for a geographic support number. Both companies use revenue sharing numbers ). I don't know if we're lucky, but we have very local support engineers for both companies, and can often get a visit hours after calling, although we are in a big city.

 

I've found they both do pretty much the same things. If I'm being really picky the Kyoceras feel a bit more plastic and not as robust as Konicas. YMMV.

Though under GCA Framework RM6361(Lot2), Kyocera direct are also listed as a supplier in their own right if you were potentially thinking of a direct award

Kyocera here, can't wait to get away from them though, colour is a swear word and their management is questionable to poor. We've gone directly via them, and suspect you would have a better time via a 3rd party.

Honestly, we've had no issues. Engineers are usually onsite same day for mechanical issues, unless we report them too late in the day in which case the following morning.

 

Can't complain. We are coming to the end of our current contract and have an ongoing tender. It remains to be seen if we go with them again, have to wait and see

Had plenty of Kyocera machines, found them to be pretty solid machines. The school had bought them second hand from the print company on a crazy cheap deal. They were getting pretty old but were still good.

Hah, since I replied to this last we've had two contracts with Kyocera. Devices are fine, engineers are great. 

I've had to kick off once or twice about parts taking a long time to arrive, or toner levels falling too far without enough stock on site, but no supplier I've ever had has got that bit right.

 

Both contracts have been under frameworks - I can not stress enough how important this is, as a previous non framework company tried to stitch us up at the end of the contract - Completely blocked behaviour in the frameworks.

We have both. One thing I like about the Kyocera is they have a design that has less parts. 15 Kyoceras here vs 2 machines in repro and the engineers seem to be on site less from Kyocera. When they are here it seems to take less time to replace parts and get them working again.

 

We do like both companies and will probably keep it as 2 separate manufacturers going forward as we like the reduced risk it gives us with less reliance on one companies supply chain.
