Windows 7 Particular User Group having log off/shut down issue

Hi Edugeek,

A very odd thing has popped up over the past week. Members of a particular user group (teachers in our Junior School) have suddenly started "hanging" during log off and shut down. They press whichever button it is and it plays the usual sound, but then gets stuck on the blank desktop stage (the part before it goes the the "Shutting Down/Logging Off" screen.) This happens on any Windows 7 PC in the school, but we haven't tried Windows 10 yet as the Junior School don't use it.

I have spoken to my manager/Network Admin and he says no changes have been made to any policies recently. We aren't sure what it is that has caused it, but something is wrong with that particular user group when it comes to logging off and shutting down.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and best regards,

Yes we have, it is definitely isolated to this OU, as we have moved our test accounts to and from the group and it happens only when they are in the Junior School OU.

We did wonder about Windows Updates, but it seems odd that they would only affect a single OU and not the entire lot.

Thank you for your reply!

Could there be a logoff script hanging? I know you say no policies have been changed but could something else have changed in your environment to cause it? Deletion of something that a logoff script depended upon?
