I've decided not to post under GDPR, but this question has come about as a result of it. Our 'Friends' of School' have a school domain account and email parent groups for their various activities. They've recently notified parents of their Privacy notice and advised parents they have the choice of 'opting out' of being on the list (Yes - I know!). A small number of parents have said yes, that like to opt out, which has led to the request for a parallel group to be maintained excluding the ones who have decided they don't want to receive those communications. I'm far from keen on having yet another group and keeping it up to date will not be easy. Has anyone hit this issue and come up with a solution. My current thinking is maybe a rules bases setup deep with the Gmail routing settings that says if from "sender a", do not send to "parent x, y, z" - all feels very clunky though!

I’d use a proper mailing list system and let the parents group leader manage membership to it. Plus, it will mean parents can unsubscribe themselves.

Any suggestions which ones? In another thread I saw InTouch mentioned, but looks to be SIMS based and we are not. I like the idea of parents controlling their own subscription. Ideally I'd like to have the 'Friends of School' controls and management largely outside of the school's admin.

We (school) can invite new parents to sign up to 'Friends of School', but after that point, it's for the volunteers to manage.

I'm even starting to wonder if they should look at a campaign management tool. It's not something I've looked in to much, but have heard of there use within the independent schools sector. I've even seen jobs advertised with the title of 'Development manager', which I've always found confusing, which were exclusively about fund raising. Costs will need to be minimal but I guess the Friends of should be able to self-fund if it makes them more effective.
