Hi everyone,

Just having a play around with 1803 and sysprep. I've managed to capture the image in WDS and have built an unattend file for it. When I deploy the image it adds the machine to the domain but it does not retain its approved WDS name. I had this working on 1607 and 1709 by simply using %MACHINENAME% in the computer name field but this doesn't work in 1803.

Its not a huge problem to rename a machine after deploying an image but It was handy not having to return to a computer after the image has deployed.

Any ideas?

Having the same problem but only in a very specific case. If I sysprep the image on the same machine that I deploy it to (for testing), it skips the rename. If I look in the setupact log file I find these lines:

Computer name in unattend [NAME HERE] matches the current current ComputerName [NAME HERE]

Skipping setting the same ComputerName

If I image any other machine it takes the pre-staged name fine. As far as I can tell it's a bug with 1803.

I recreated it from scratch using the latest kit, the only thing which seemed to change is I couldn't get it to unsecure join like on previous versions so now it does a secure join using a domain admin account. I designated computer name as %MACHINENAME% in this part:

GMT Standard Time

%MACHINENAME%

This worked on older versions to retain the machine name but I will try putting the image on another machine (not the build machine) and see if that works.
