EduGeek EDIT 2018 Update

Let me first start by apologising for not keeping you all in the loop sooner, things have been very hectic here for one reason or another in the past few weeks.

 

As some of you may recall, we let you know a bit back that due to the National Space Centre having some construction work done on the entrance area we couldn’t host the event there this year.

 

So, after running a survey to find out where would fit the bill nicely we decided on a suitable location with good road and rail links and had an appropriately large venue to host it at. Then, for reasons I won’t go into here, events made that location untenable.

 

After another week or so of looking around, we did find an even better location (we really do have more than a few very specific requirements when selecting an EDIT venue), but once we had received the relevant information from the venue the timescale we had to organise the conf (usually three months+) was reduced to just over a month.

 

We had also previously been made aware that many of you would also have your hands full on the run up too and over, the May half term break with GDPR implementation and compliance which will affect quite a few members ability to attend.

Then we found out just how many of you suddenly had a lot of work to do regarding GDPR.

 

Because of this we have made the (very) hard decision to reschedule the conf to the October half term.

 

This is not a decision we took lightly, but we didn’t want to risk hosting an EDIT Conf that may not have been as good as the ones we have done in the past given the time constraints, and with such short notice put many of you on the spot as regards to leave and getting time off to attend.

 

Nor could we hold it during the summer due to the high work and family commitments you all have over that period.

 

We hope you understand why we made the decision to put EDIT back to later in the year, we really were caught between a rock and a hard place, and we shall keep you posted as to October’s event and promise you that it will be as good as we can possibly make it.

 

We already have some excellent talks and speakers lining up which will ensure that this really will be a great one.

We will aim for half term in the autumn, but that is probably the least consistent Holiday across the country.

 

Expect a survey on when your half term week is!
