Jawloms Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Hiya, I've tried installing the group policy definitions and all the existing ones won't overwrite as they are write protected. How do I install them? Everything just says "copy them in". Thank you Stuart
chazzy2501 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 \\domainname\SYSVOL\domainname\Policies\PolicyDefinitions this is the area you're trying to paste the definitions into? You should be able to just paste them in. check your current user permissions? are you domain admin. going through a read only share? 1
Jawloms Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 I was working directly on the DC using the domain admin account, so accessing the C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions folder. If I look in \\domainname\SYSVOL\domainname\Policies\, I just have a massive list of folders with hex names. I don't have a folder called "PolicyDefinitions".
chazzy2501 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Then you don't have a central store: To create a Central Store for .admx and .adml files, create a folder that is named PolicyDefinitions in the following location: \\FQDN\SYSVOL\FQDN\policies Note FQDN is a fully qualified domain name. For example, to create a Central Store for the Test.Microsoft.com domain, create a PolicyDefinitions folder in the following location: \\Test.Microsoft.Com\SYSVOL\Test.Microsoft.Com\Policies 1
Jawloms Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 If I now set one up, is it likely to break anything else?
chazzy2501 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 nope, create the "PolicyDefinitions" folder plop in the adml files and their language packs blah, next time you use group policy editor you'll see settings for the new windows, you can also put office adml's in here. I use windows 8.1 to manage windows 10 PCs just fine. thanks to central store. 1
