What's Going ON???

Laptop on domain running Windows 10 LTSB - offline files enabled - user on old server.

 

User is out of building. Move over to new server (user area now pointing to new server in AD, GPOs changed for folder redirection to new server).

 

User comes back in. Laptop takes AGES to log on.... like it won't log on unless I plug it in to the network and even then it takes a long time.

 

I remotely connect to event viewer and it has successfully redirected documents and favourites folders. There is this error - The winlogon notification subscriber is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logon).

 

Why is it doing this?! It's really holding me up moving staff over.

If offline files are enabled it'll be trying to sync any changes made offsite back to the server which by the sounds of it doesnt exist/have permissions etc anymore.

It just sits on the spinning Welcome screen with the username above it.

 

Event viewer hasn't logged anything for 30 minutes now..... do I reboot?

I've rebooted. Logs on locally fine. Trying to log in as myself to see what happens. I log on fine too. Edited May 15, 2018 by Joanne

Did you have an offline cached profile on the laptop before though? Or was that a fresh login?

 

When you get the delayed GPO event there should be another one just before it that says what policies it's applying at that time to narrow down which is causing the problem, might be worth a check to see what's in that one

Yeah I always log in to laptops after I've imaged them to test, so I had a cached profile, maybe not so much for offline files though.... hmmm.

 

So event viewer we have folder redirections all successful

then Successfully scheduled Software Protection service for re-start at 2018-05-22T06:42:48Z. Reason: RulesEngine.

then The Software Protection service has stopped.

and then The winlogon notification subscriber is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logon).

 

What I might to is disconnect the laptop from the network entirely and see if I can log in with the offline profile. Then at least we can get edited docs off and I can remove the local profile.
