Hi

We are finally looking into removing classicshell and customising the start menu.

I have created the start menu in the first screen shot. Logged on locally and not the domain. Exported fine.

Copied to a different machine, copied the file to a folder on C drive. Set GPO of test user (domain) to get the start menu from the C drive not network share.

The result is a totally different menu :(

Anyone know how I might be able to get it looking correct.

Thanks

Compare the content of the [%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\LayoutModification.xml] file on both PCs.

Thanks, just had a look and there is no LocalModification.xml in that folder, there is just the DefaultLayouts.xml.

Turns out 1709 and later versions no longer generate that file. :/

Can you post the content of the exported xml layout you are using?

Thanks. XML code below that is exported.

I have also been doing a start menu, I found that I need to look at the XML, and make sure that path contains "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%, otherwise that icon will not show on another computer.

Looks like the "This PC" tile is a pinned shortcut. I've not had much luck getting those to work outside creating a shortcut in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" and linking that in the .xml.

The "Printers and Scanners" tile only worked once I filled in the empty "DisplayName=" attribute.
