When you come to do the exams, put your job role as Student and then go through the verification and it knocks them down from £113 to £62 + VAT a go. Read up the small print and it says "academic pricing applies to staff as well as students, set your job to student etc". One of the verification options is "school provided email address" so nice and easy.

 

I've got the MS Press books for 70-740,741,742, the Measureup practise exams and going to watch the free MVA videos already linked above too. Starting with 70-741 as it was the smaller book. Takes a while to get back into the MS question style after a 6 year gap (read the wording VERY carefully as I'm sure they word things in an attempt to trip you up)

 

I was just reading this and thinking... we all talk about courses and learning, etc, which is all well and good for the actual knowledge part... but we, and most articles online hardly discuss taking the exams to prove to others you know what you are doing, and what is the best way to about this.

 

Have any of you done your own learning for a Microsoft, CCNA, CompTIA, etc Exam, and gone about booking it on it's own? Do you know any good IT Professional Exam providers where you can just book your exam? Do you have any little known tips and tricks for exams or getting the best prices?

Me! I did my 2003 MCSA through a training centre but I booked the exams myself (as the training place wasn't an exam centre).

 

More recently I got the books for 2008 and did the learning and the exam booking. And just recently I've bought the exam books, some practise tests and booked an exam for 2016. You just click the link on the MS exam page and it will take you to Pearson's website where you either find an exam centre and book or opt for an online one (where there is someone watching you on webcam but you can do the exam from home). Same price per exam for each (£113 + VAT or £62 + VAT academic pricing).

Pearson Vue do Microsoft certifications. There are a lot of exam centres dotted around the country.

I did my CCNA through self study it was long and arduous but totally worth it in my opinion. In fact probably the best course I've ever done.

 

Just finished my CCNA Wireless and did VMware last year both through QA. Really good courses and the exams really enforce the learning (for me at least).
