IA76 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Hi We had a couple of Cisco 2950 switches donated to our charity organisation. We just want to use them as basic unmanaged switches. How do I do this or is there some kind of simple manual for it I can download?
steve Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 If they haven't got VLANS configured on them, they should just work as a bog standard switch. If they do have VLANS configured you'll probably need a console cable, the console password and the reset instructions. Resetting the password Resetting Catalyst Switches to Factory Defaults If you need a console cable, let me know, I might have a spare knocking around.
Joedetic Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Yeah as Steve said. Get in...get into privilaged mode (the "enable" command). Delete vlan.dat and erase nvram. You need to make sure you clear the config too though (the erase nvram bit) because there could be port security and things configured which, unless you want some unexpected funny behaviour, you don't want.
