Biltlocker issue after new motherboard.

Hi, Just had a new motherboard in one of our teachers laptops but we cant boot the laptop due to Bitlocker.

 

Originally we had PIN set as the Bitlocker pass. Now as I type the PIN number I get to about the 4th number and the laptop enters a - symbol rather than the number. if I then enter lots of random characters we get the - symbol at even intervals.

 

It looks like Bitlocker has switched from a PIN to something else, but not sure.

 

Any advice how we should proceed.

if youve changed the motherboard it might want the recovery key rather than the normal bitlocker code at least once as it knows hardware has changed esp if it had a tpm or secure boot

Just managed to login to Windows using the recovery key. Bitlocker listed the drive as a pin but when I reboot it says the PIN is not correct, although this time it is not showing the - symbol, and knows it should be a PIN that is enetered.

 

The pin I am entering is 100% the correct pin.

 

Do I need to login using the recovery key and remove bitlocker, then put it back?

just login using then recovery key and change the pin

For future reference, if you suspend BitLocker prior to any hardware replacements (or BIOS updates) you won't get prompted for the recovery password when the computer is next booted up.
