I've been reading up on it and after using it myself personally the best feature is the new background in the settings menu on the left, it follows your mouse!

Timeline looks promising for remembering what you did & where you went earlier. New icon at left of taskbar.

You get a similar effect when you hover over the days in the calendar (when you click the date/time in the bottom left). It's really cool.

sounds useful but so far my experience is it shows i was using excel spreadsheets at some point dosent show use of say chrome or anything else i may of used but at least it shows stuff i did on non 1803 pcs (my laptop refuses to install the update due to a hybrid video card app i dont have)

They should label it as a key feature, it's amazing. The other stuff is "okay" I guess.

It shows all my browsing via Edge. Another reason to change browsers?

as i have an android phone and a chromebook moving to edge would mean that diddnt sync and while i could run edge on my phone i cant (or id be very surprised if i could) on my chromebook and last time i used edge it was dreadful

Chrome does show up if you open links from other applications.

If Timeline just showed things you have open on your PC, it would be handy. But it goes further than that: if you use Edge on your Android or iOS phone, tabs opened in the mobile browser are also visible on the desktop Timeline. I find this very useful—it's a convenient way of taking what I was doing when mobile and picking it up on my PC.

 

The selection of things visible in Timeline is perhaps its weakness. Applications that use Windows' standard APIs for most recently used files seem to show their documents within the Timeline. Edge tabs all seem to be visible, too. But I use Chrome as my primary browser, and Chrome's tabs don't appear to be tracked in Timeline. That's not to say Chrome doesn't appear at all, though. Here's the way I think it works: if I click a link in a different application and that launches a Chrome tab, that link is put in my Timeline. If, however, I create a new tab within Chrome directly by pressing ctrl+T, Timeline has no idea.

 

Better integration with Timeline is almost enough to make me want to switch to Edge. Microsoft continues to make Edge better; the browser has the usual updates like better standards compliance and performance, along with a handful of user improvements.

Is it just me or does reveal highlight disable itself whenever you change focus, e.g selecting a menu button or if you click hide agenda on the calendar.

Is this intended by design... I find it kind of annoying.

Edge in 1803 is fantastic. Our ticketing system was pretty bad in chrome, firefox, and edge. After upgrading to 1803 it runs far better in Edge than any other browser!

I don't know if it's intended but I have the same issue, it's probably an oversight.

Everything I've read indicates most new features require an MS account for subscription to take full advantage of them.

I've not looked at it myself yet, waiting until it hits vlsc.

 

Timeline, personally I couldn't care less, but we do not have o365 etc, users are on local AD. So there is no syncing across devices.

Security improvements most are behind an ATP subscription if I'm reading it right.

 

New deployment features, nice, but what have is working well.

1709 has been a solid build for us, so may stick with it into next school year.

 

Given that I'm on local AD no MS accounts and no subscriptions, are there any compelling reasons to upgrade?

So there is no syncing across devices.

There is if you have a Microsoft account, even between my work (domain) and home machines. It does help with continuity, for sure.

Microsoft Edge adds a shortcut to the desktop for each user, like Chrome does. Hopefully there will be a way to disable when the new ADMX templates get released. Edited May 4, 2018 by ollyyllo

1803 has the OpenSSH client enabled by default, that's pretty useful.
