snagrat Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Next week I need to move Papercut to a new server. I want to do this or our MFD provider will charge to do this. They are giving me the installer files for the version we have as I believe the maintenance has expired - although I need to confirm this. Is moving Papercut a relative simple thing to do? Our new server will have the same IP and name as the old one so I am hoping I can: Backup Papercut and the whole directory Turn off old server Build new server Install Printers with same Names as old server Install Papercut Restore Backup file I hve a Papercut article to follow so hopefully it is this simple. As the name and IP of the server is not changing I am assuming I do not have to do anything to the MFDs. Any advise on this would be great.
FN-GM Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 I did it before Christmas and followed that process. It went better than I thought it would. I used the Windows print manager software to backup and restore the printers instead of manually adding them to the new server. That way all the drivers, ports settings are identical to the old. It is also quicker! You might need to reboot the MFDs as they may time out because the server has been offline for a period. Any logged on machines might need to log off and on again for the PaperCut client to re-connect to the server. If you don't run the client you should be ok.

Although not the same as you - I jumped from Server 2012 (none R2) to 2016 and it was ok. Another question - was the license part of the backup or did you have to import that separately? I can't remember. Something is telling me it wasn't part of the backup but I can't be 100%.
Manny-Tech Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 I did this during last half term, exact same setup, was a breeze. I moved from server 2008 R2 to server 2016 and the licensing did come over. Like @FN-GM I used the built in Windows Print Management to backup and then restore the print queues and drivers, I even took the opportunity to upgrade all the drivers at the time whilst I had the planned maintenance. 1
