Hi,

I'm pretty new to this community so hello everyone! I've recently installed SIMS onto a system however the setup files had disappeared. I was going to attempt a reinstall of SIMS as I couldn't manage a way to reset some logins and the manager had suddenly stopped working. It's a lot of problems I know and all these errors popped up so sudden.

Could anyone please give me advice, maybe even the setup files or someway I can redo all the SQL or reset the user accounts and fix the SIMS Manager.

Thanks

Hi @Chrissy, welcome to Edugeek.

It's a while since we had SIMS, but as I recall the setup files sat in a share on the server.

Is that share still there?

Can you access the share?

Are the files in there? (somewhere)

If the files are indeed gone can you recover them from backup?

The sims setup files tend to be located s:\sims\setups\...

There are various setup files including simsinst.exe simsinfrastructuresetup.exe sqlinfrastructuresetup.exe etc etc

If memory serves me correctly the server/client install of sims is in simsinst.exe but I imagine you would need to run sql and sims infrastructure setups to prep the server.

On Tuesday I will have a look as I may still have install notes that I used when I clean installedsims on a 2012r2 server.

Hi, the share drive is there and I can access it. The files are however not in the setups folder or any folder inside the setups and I don't think we have a backup, it's pretty mysterious. I do have SIMS currently installed but because of all the errors I wanted to reinstall it (as said in the first post) but because these setup files are missing; I am unable to re install SIMS. Yeah will do, you wouldn't know a fix for this. When I start up the manager, it gives me the invalid startup paremeters. This is one of the main problems.

This thread isn't the clearest - sims normally has a database on a server and a client application on multiple PC's. In general i'd expect a lot of people to be using solus 3 to get sims updates and push them out either via solus3 or some other method. So a) do you guys use solus b) what actually are 'all the errors'

In terms of the s:\sims\setups path - I believe that's likely to be out of date if you are using solus3

However, apart from both solus3 and sims being "broken" - your still not being overly clear.

Are you trying to do this over a VPN from home ? (that might explain why solus 3 couldn't connect - it could also explain the errors using sims if the network connection is slow/unreliable/drops)

What exact error(s) are you actually getting within sims

My solus 3 extracts updates to this folder so the installation folders are alway up to date.

I agree that more clarity is needed and you need to identify whether you have a server side database issue, a deployment issue, or a client side issue? Do you know where the problem lies?

If you cannot connect to CES network through SIMS deployment management then that sounds like your deployment service is mis configured. All it may be is that your solus 3 is not registered with capita to receive updates

Your sims support will be able to register your solus 3
