chrisprice Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) We're currently experiencing an issue whereby Photoshop CS3 (outdated I know, looking at upgrading to CC) is saving students work on one of our servers as .tmp files. The file names become ~ps[random string of numbers].tmp. They can work on the document fine, save it as normal, however when they come to use reopen it, it's a .tmp file which they can do nothing with, often losing a fair amount of work. They have the correct permissions to the share - we use folder redirection to direct their documents to a network share which is their own home drive. I understand Adobe discourage use of saving to a network, but as you can imagine, saving locally is not an option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! sted Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 does the file work if you change the extension to whatever photoshop uses?
leeshellard Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Hi Sted I work with Chris, it seems to work sometimes but not always. Lee 1
howartp Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Do they have modify permission - I believe Adobe always saves as .tmp then renames it, so if they don't have modify then they can't rename it.

difinity Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 We encountered this problem. I can't remember the solution 100%, but we figured it was down to the kids logging off before it had saved properly. We created a local partition, got the students to save to that then copy to their area IIRC. (It was about 4 years ago, and i'm rather under the weather, also left the school). Real time virus scanning can also cause issues, so we might have added an exclusion.
ReadTheNetwork Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 It sounds like it's trying to save something locally first which they don't have access to: Does it work on certain machines not others? Maybe there's a temporary folder such as C:\Temp which they don't have access to?! Maybe it's an antivirus problem. Could you use a program monitoring software to see if it tries and unsuccessfully saves files locally before uploading them on the share? thanks,
