Understanding Office, Office 365, Student versions etc

The A1 for Students and Faculty is the O365 plan you need. I understand from this thread that they were not listed under your Billing -> Licenses previously, and now they are.

 

That is how it should be. Once your VL reseller adjusted your domain rights etc, the A1 plans appeared. It is these plans you need to assign to students and staff appropriately, pretty much as per your screenshot (where you opted to not assign a license).

 

Through the Azure AD Portal you can automatically assign licenses based on Azure AD groupings (either synced from on-premises AD or groups created in the cloud).

so the VLSC shows 150 faculty and 1400 student licences, but the Office Admin Central Portal shows NO subscriptions and Unlimited licences for Office 365 A1 for faculty and Office 365 A1 for students - and that's correct?

Under your EES agreement you can assign unlimited licenses for free, and all users who receive a license can install Office 2016 at home on up to 5 machines (unless you remove their ability to do so, the individual components of each license can be modified on a per-user or per-group basis).

So we setup a test teacher - logged in and clicked the "Install Office Apps" link.

 

This takes the user to a page with a left hand menu that shows:

Skype for Business

OneDrive

Tools & Add-ins

I must apologise... I misread an earlier post you made when you referred to A1 for students. You do need "A1 Plus". The standard A1 only includes the things you listed, which would make sense. I think this still lies with your reseller. Activating the Plus facility is something they do with Microsoft... that rings bells with me, it's been a while since we set up O365 and I remember leaving everything in my reseller's court. They had a to-and-fro with Microsoft and sorted it out, the "A1 Plus" licenses were made available after a short while.

 

TL: DR contact your reseller and see what they say.

The re-seller says I have to activate the licences!

In my VLSC for Online Services, none of the O365 ProPlus services are activated, that's why I've never had anything to do with VLSC when it comes to O365...

 

I'm a little stumped at your predicament.

 

Edit: All I remember is my reseller doing something with Microsoft to get me (or my predecessor, it's been a while!) the appropriate licenses and since then we have unlimited O365 Plus for staff and students.

The only thing I would check is to make sure the account you used to access the VLSC Online Activations is an administrator account for O365, which isn't necessarily the same account you use to manage VLSC. It should ask you to login with an Office 365 account before you reach that page.

Did it all under IE instead of Google Chrome, think it was getting confused with all the logins and logouts using various levels of accounts.

 

 

It also does n't help that my login email address for both the VLSC and Admin portal are the same email address.

 

 

Will write my notes up now....then will get some teachers uploaded and get them to test the office installs on their own devices at home before moving on to the students!

I really don't get it at all now, I thought they had got rid of ProPlus licences and replaced with "A1 Plus" (it wouldn't let us renew our ProPlus but let us have A1 plus which includes exactly the same as ProPlus did). But your screenshot clearly shows ProPlus. Would love for Microsoft licensing to actually make sense one day!

I am just going through doing the setup for this for the reason of just allowing Office downloads. For individual users you can disable OneDrive and Office Online apps, I am just looking for a clever way to do this for everyone.
