synaesthesia Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Has anyone here succesfully moved their .sch.uk domain over to Godaddy? If so could you please pm me your domain and any gotchas? Multiple times i'm told it's not possible, only after jumping through several hoops, changing the IPS tag etc. Would rather stick with them as they host our other domain names but their support couldn't seem to organise a jolly time in a brewery.
Wave9_Lee Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Hi Synaesthasia, Not used GoDaddy, but there are other hosts that will deal with .sch.uk - appreciate it's a pain to change - but if you're moving it anyway, you might as well find a host that makes it easy.. 1
robsonma Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Might be worth giving them a ring, 020 7084 1810 their support should be better to advise.
synaesthesia Posted March 5, 2018 Author Posted March 5, 2018 I spent most of the afternoon speaking to their support and they were next to useless. I get slightly different answers depending who I speak to each time. We'd rather manage our domains in the same place but never mind. And indeed TSOHost have been recommended, will be taking a look. Cheers.
Blue_Cookeh Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 We moved ours to Eclipse Internet about 15 years ago - been flawless that entire time.
NokiX Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I do not recommend GoDaddy at all for any .uk domain name, they have terrible support for them and I've dealt with many cases where users end up leaving but have to pay Nominet directly to change the tag as GoDaddy support fail to do it for weeks. As others have said TSO have a good reputation for sch.uk domains but I can also hit you up at Krystal Hosting if you like In any case I'd always suggest going with whatever provider fits your requirements best and gives you the least amount of hassle.
synaesthesia Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 Been on support with TSO for all of 5 minutes and they've already been vastly more helpful than Godaddy ever were! 1
synaesthesia Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 Well this is a crock of rubbish. IPS tag was transferred to Godaddy on their original request, now I'm trying to shift it to someone who knows what a domain is, Godaddy say they're unable to change that IPS tag, as are the original registrar (schools broadband). Godaddy are some of the worst people I've had to deal with, pure incompetence! Hoping TSO can help before it goes through nominet's dispute policy!
2ilent8cho Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 When we moved from LEA broadband 8 years ago i struggled to find somebody who would take a .sch.uk , so just transfered it to Nominet, pointed domain to our onsite BIND servers running on Linux and just host the domain on site.
synaesthesia Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 We've got a host, that's not an issue. Getting Godaddy to release the tag (it's literally taken them 20 minutes to use their own whois tool to realise they are the listed registrar) is our current fight!
mikkydoos Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Did ours with Vidahost. No problems at all. (Apart from getting the LA to change the IPS tag)
Foresthippy Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I've transferred a bunch of sch.uk domains to heart internet with no issue. Just got ips tag changed by the original registrant which was rm. Claimed the domain, job done.
