SCCM Task sequence app install failure

Having another problem with installing apps with SCCM, particularly with the "Install Applications" stage during a task sequence OSD. I am trying to deploy NetBeans and its Java Development kit, the Java DK installs no problem and then NetBeans installs after no problem BUT when I then add in the rest of the apps I want to install into the "Install Applications" stage, during OSD NetBeans then fails to install when it reaches it. I don't think its just a specific NetBeans issue as other apps fail to install as well but install fine when they are by themselves in a task sequence deployment. Is there any logical reason why this could be happening? because I cant think of any

 

 

All the applications I added into SCCM have been tested as a deployment to ensure they can install silently without error.

 

Does install order matter in the list of apps in that step?

 

 

Any help would be appreciated!

Do you need to reboot after the JDK has installed? Try adding a restart in to your TS to see.

So it works fine in TS when on it's own, but fails if you install lets say 5 in a row?

 

Simple one could be it requires a restart between the two and the installers error out if this hasn't been done as it thinks something is installing. (Simple test would be just putting in a Restart to OS (not pxe) between the installs and trying it)

 

What's the error log for the installer tell you when it errors? Should show it in the CCM logs still

Yeah exactly that Steve, it fails when installing say 5 or more.

 

Ok just tried moving Netbeans to install STRAIGHT after the JDK (which is a dependency) and it installs successfully along with the other 10 programs but when it was further down the order it would fail, why would it do that? I'm quite a logical thinker and need to understand why these things happen otherwise it annoys me.

 

Thats the only thing I just changed, good idea with the restart step but I haven't added that in?

 

I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot of this as I have 62 programs in total to add to this install step.

Right I see, yeah I suppose they could well be affecting the Netbeans installation, some of the other programs are visual C++ redists, flash player, adobe air etc I will add a restart in and give it another test!

 

Might not be able to reply until tomorrow now whether it works or not as it takes 1.5hour+ to test each deployment.

Just to report back, I added in a restart just before where Netbeans previously failed and it worked! It then installed with no complaints, so I'm now going down the list and will try for the rest of the software. See below for what my task sequence now looks like

That's good to hear Aye there are smarter ways to resolve it with error checking etc but generally find it's easier just to lump in the restarts if it's only one or two that's having the problems, just ensures it cleans things out

Ok am having another issue with an app further down, it appears the cache is full so wont download it. I did increase the cache size in client settings to 20GB but it doesn't seemed to have applied, as you can see in the log below it starts at its default of 5GB but then after the app has failed it then increases to 20GB, do you know why it isnt set from the start?

 

Tbh I think this was my problem before and is my only problem, the app is adobe design standard so is over 4.5gb itself which was why netbeans was working when it was installed above adobe.

Where are you setting the increase? If you're doing as it part of a policy it won't apply until after windows finished as that's when it's pulling it down.

 

You need to do it as part of the command line install options on the configmgr package/push installs if you want it applied from the start

Right I was doing it from the client settings in config mgr, see below:

SMSCACHESIZE=10240 (10gb example as on mine)

Just tried it again with smscachesize set in installation properties but its still not changing it and saying cache is full, do i need to specify any other parameters Steve?
