Default Browser Options

Afternoon All,

 

So plugging away with our 10 testing and ran into a slight hitch, my original plan was to default people to Edge, install Chrome and block IE11 but seeing Edge can't support SSO for AADC etc that's kind of broken that plan.

 

Those of you who are using Chrome as your default do you find any problems with things like ActiveX/plugins, GotoAssist/Citrix etc that need bits installed/linked? If so are you running Chrome and IE for it still or do you just leave them all installed and let people pick/tell them to use certain ones for certain bits?

 

Read a few older threads on here that seem very mixed opinions and wondered if anyones got any more updated views since the last few updates etc

I install chrome as default but users can pick what they want to use. We are GAFE so I highly recommend chrome to everyone.

The biggest plugin issue is google trying to kill flash, but there are GPO's for that.

I don't know of anything the average user needs activex for. I've needed it to manage some archaic systems.

Gotoassist and the sort usually install an extension and work just fine.

Edge is still a long way being 'Enterprise ready'.

 

I install Chrome and users can use IE too. I set IE as the default browser using the 'default associations configuration file' GPO and it works well.

That's good to hear Had a horrible thought things like GoToAssist etc might all have a whine!

 

Will give that a try setting it as defaults for all programs then. (We're rolling out flash for Chrome anyway as some like to use it for older stuff anyway)

You can force Chrome open certain sites in IE using legacy browser support. Chrome actually has a decent amount of GPO settings compared to Edge.
