New "CPR" regulations - fire safety and permanent cabling

So, one of my suppliers has given me a heads up about the impending changes in law regarding fixed cabling installation (doesn't matter what type of cable - fibre, copper etc...).

 

Basically, EU regs are introducing the CPR labeling system to easily label cable by its fire resistance etc... The UK will be using BS6701 which will be ratified in July/August 2018, and this specifies that CPR C Class cabling be used in all wiring.

 

Nothing major there, however, no-one is going to be manufacturing a Class C Cat5e cable apparenlty, so legally we will end up being forced to use Cat6/Cat6a.

 

Anyone else heard about this?

First I've heard of this. First reaction upon hearing this from a supplier rather than anyone else is "bull poop" but as per the norm, we're the last to find out if/when it's kosher. If I'm reading correctly though, it's not necessary for the cables themselves to be marked up, however it is for the packaging/drums. So if I buy 305m of cable tomorrow, use it all, another 305m in a few weeks then go through another few hundred in August, all from different brands, I would have to keep a "catalogue" of each label, where the cable was used....

Indeed. Nothing becomes law in the UK until the ratification.

 

I think the main issue is that from what I've seen, no Cat5e manufacturers appear to be planning on making Class C cable. Only Cat6+
