Hi all,

I have had an issue which comes and goes, mainly affecting about 2-5 people when it does occur. The issue is user A will get papercut print accounts (when they try to print) of user B and when user B tries to print the papercut client will pop up on user A screen.

So effectively user A cannot print as they do not have permission to user B print accounts.

User A gets random papercut client pop ups to charge print jobs which they aren’t printing.

User A has to log out and log back in for this to correct (or restart the papercut client if they have permission).

As above this affects various users and there doesn’t seem to be a common occurrence, ie not the same users (that I know of), different times and days of week. The only thing that is common so far is it is hitting only our windows 10 users (again, that I know of).

No logs show any information and due to the nature of the users (teachers) I am unable to have access to their machines to do testing when it happens as they are teaching.

Has anyone else come across this? It has been happening since December I believe when we upgraded to v17 and our windows 10 clients have latest papercut client installed, running locally.

Thanks,

Tom

Do you have fast user switching enabled? Are User A & B logged on to the same machine at the same time? just a thought...

Thanks for the reply. No these computers are effectively assigned to just one user. No fast user switching.

Log into the PaperCut administration interface as the admin user.

Navigate to Options and select the Config Editor (Advanced)

Use the Quick find box to locate the key: client.allow-match-on-machine-or-ip-only

what is that set to?

It is set to "Y".

I agree about the DNS side of things but that could be hard to troubleshoot. At present it looks as if papercut is at fault because of how the popups work, papercut is probably doing nothing wrong and when it tries to find the right client its lied to by the network. I would try setting that key to N and see if that improves things.

So yesterday I managed to do a bit of testing on a client. We had a computer that was getting pop ups from someone else (still unknown who) they had a department listed so I thought I would use papercut to send a test message to the clients of everyone in that department and watch to see which ones appeared on the computer. However, NON of the test messages come to the computer?

I checked DNS and the record for the laptop was pointing at the correct IP and there was no other records going to that IP. The laptop was Windows 7 this time. I was not able to see the job in the job log in papercut that had appeared on the computer I assume because it hadn't been released.

I also sent a test message to the correct user of the computer to make sure it got it correctly and it did.

I will investigate DNS further but all records seem to be correct when I looked at it in the above instance.

Thanks,

Tom
