I'm running round in circles trying to work out what's needed for this job, can anyone point me in the right direction?

 

Basically I am at School A, I also have school B that is a totally separate entity, both connected to SWGfL. School A and School B operate totally separate network systems and will continue to do so.

 

At School A I have a 10.4.4.x network and a Cisco 2911 router, port G0/1 is my default gateway (10.4.7.254) and port G0/2 is unused (but about to be upgraded to a Juniper in a different project...)

At School B they have a 10.4.80.x network and a Juniper SRX300 router, port ge-0/0/0 is their default gateway (10.4.83.254) and ports ge-0/0/1 to ge-0/0/4 are unused.

 

I'm reliably informed that through SWGfL I can extend my LAN to school B and School B can extend their LAN to School A but both schools would use isolated switching at the other end so the two networks on each site are not physically joined in any way. We would therefore end up with some of my devices at School B (biometric scanners if you are interested, not workstations or servers) and School B would have similar on my site. The whole project is to allow real time Sixth Form student registrations and SIMS write back when they are on the other site as we run a collaborative sixth form and registers are a mess....

 

In some discussions, it appears I will need a new IP addressing scheme at each remote site and other discussions it appears that I can use my internal IP addresses at their site (but on my isolated switches) and SWGfL so something clever with routing and firewall rules.

 

So if you are still with me, what on earth should I be asking for from SWGfL? I'm in discussions with their tech team but going nowhere fast. With all the MAT's and similar merging all over the place I can't be the only school that's looking to do this?

 

The whole WAN thing is a bit above my knowledge base so want to make sure what I request is right. Any advice greatly appreciated.
