I'm trying to update veeam Backup and Replication 9.0 (update 2) to the latest 9.5 build. It gets as far as the SQL Server selection screen and generates the error 'Unable to detect database action' - which is one of the most useless messages I've seen for a while :-)

I'm waiting for a response from veeam but wondered if anyone else had seen this? I can't even add a new SQL instance as this option is greyed out in the installer as it defaults to selecting the already present instance for 9.0.

Two quick things to check, You on an old SQL version still? Think they nuked some of the ones they supported recently, and did you try it with a local admin account rather than something with redirect profiles etc

Using SQL Server 2012 which is still supported I believe? Tried with local account and other domain accounts but get the same.

I'm going to try upgrading using an earlier version of 9.5 that I have to see if thats any better

Managed to sort it - even though it was showing as the latest version of 9.0 (i.e 9.0.0.1715) I ran the 9.0 Update 2 package again.

Once this completed it still showed as 9.0.0.1715 but the update package to 9.5 now worked!
