Anyone had a look at some of the ideas coming from Novell re: XGL? Pretty cool stuff!

I really loved that cube idea where you can move your different things between the sides of a cube like watching a movie on one side and having photos on another side and so on and so fourth.

 

Any chance mac os will start doing that ?

Installed it a few weeks ago, ran ok, bit slow though. Maybe when I upgrade my machine...

Suse 10.1 has full XGL if you want to play.

Is kororaa the gpl violating one?

I have nothing against them, clearly no evil intended by them, but still, people should know...

Not proven in court so it's a murky grey area. You should probably read the blog post(s) by the Kororaa developer though if your worried.

I had some problems getting this going with dapper / ATI at home

Gave up after a friend reported that 3D games are too slow and its still a bit buggy. Using SuSE here so might give it a go when I update to 10.1

I can confirm that this runs very nicely (though can slow down a little) on Ubuntu 6x. I ran it under an nVidia 6600 GT (128MB GDDR3) and the effects are pretty good (on a par with OS X). I took it off because when running VmWare Server it slowed down even more- and I need to study for my MS exams.

 

On the subject of Ubuntu- it's cracking. Even better than the last version I tried (v5). Worth a look.

I ran it until I tried to use xine and it was somewhat slow, having switched back, I really miss the cool effects and cubeness (ctrl-alt-down was actually useful)
